News has broken that original stars Jennifer Lawrence and Josh Hutcherson are returning to their iconic characters in the newest chapter of the Hunger Games film series, titled The Hunger Games: Sunrise on the Reaping. Production is currently underway.

The actors are returning as Katniss Everdeen and Peeta Mellark, the characters they made famous. It is believed their appearance will take the form of a brief glimpse ahead, given that the original saga concluded with their characters living in peace.

Sunrise on the Reaping is adapted from a 2025 novel by series creator Suzanne Collins. It serves as the follow-up prequel after 2023's The Ballad of Songbirds & Snakes. Once again is Francis Lawrence, who has helmed most of the previous films in the series.
