'Living a Nightmare': Families of Unaccounted For Young People Await News After Alpine Blaze

The families of teens missing after a tragic blaze at a bar in a Swiss alpine town are confronting an excruciating period of uncertainty for official news and requesting information about their loved ones online.

The fire devastated the a popular bar in Cans-Montana, located in the mountains of the Valais region, in the early hours of the first day of the year. Circulated video depict the ceiling being engulfed in flames as beverages with sparklers are held aloft.

Emergency services have warned that it could take considerable time to identify the fatalities of the tragedy, which resulted in the death of four dozen individuals and injured another scores more. A spokesperson said on the latest update that 113 of the those hurt have been identified, with work continuing to locate the final individuals.

In the interim, loved ones have been posting on the internet to plead for clues about their friends who were present at the venue that fateful night.

Heartbreaking Pleas for the Missing

The whereabouts of teenager from Switzerland Arthur Brodard, sixteen, are not yet determined, according to an public plea from his parent.

The resident of a town near Lausanne, explained to a publication that she had returned to the city to check whether he was in the hospital, while his father did the equivalent search in Bern, but was unsuccessful.

"I'm living a nightmare, a horror. The options are finding my son in the morgue, or I find him in critical condition. It's terrible," she stated.

She explained that some of his companions had been discovered with injuries covering a significant portion of their bodies. "It's indescribable; they endured an absolute nightmare."

The Italy's government has said that a number of of its young people have not been located.

Giovanni Tamburi, sixteen, is also among the missing. His parent told reporters that he had been on holiday but had ventured out with friends and found himself at the venue.

"A companion informed me they escaped after the fire erupted and that he had his mobile with him, but then at a certain point he couldn't see him anymore," she recounted, adding he had been wearing a distinctive piece of jewelry.

One of his educators commented, "He was known for his good nature and smile, combined with great responsibility. He would frequently offer to help out."

Alice Kallergis, who holds dual Swiss and Greek citizenship but lives permanently in Switzerland, was also present on New Year's Eve, according to reports.

Her sibling has published an urgent request on social media, saying the family has had "no updates" regarding the 15-year-old or the group she was with, who are also unaccounted for.

Officials from her country of origin say they are continuing to monitor the case.
